Today’s devotion comes from Jonathan Golder.

Read Acts 2:42 – 47

It is fascinating watching how different Churches are adapting to having to present Church in a different way.  What that comes with is a new opportunity to invite people along to Church from the comfort of their own homes, without having to make the effort to go and see or talk to people and without having to step out of their comfort zone.  Social Media on Saturday evenings is often awash with different invitations to Church from the comfort of your sofa.

Church is being forced to find a new way of being a community and sharing the Gospel from behind our doors.  ‘The Church is still alive’ but in a different way.  In this passage we read about how the believers had ‘fellowship’ and were ‘together’.  They met together regularly and they shared communion.  Their number was added to daily.

What we are experiencing of Church now is merely a fraction of what the whole body of Church is when we meet together.  The people in Church are blessing others in great new ways, using their gifts and talents so that we can still enjoy Church in a new and different way.  Yet, it will always feel like something is missing.  We are designed to be together and have fellowship with one another.  This is a great opportunity for those people we reach out to, to show them what Church is like – but it is only a small glimpse of all that is through the door.  Sadly, it is often the case that there are times that people cannot join and meet together for a variety of reasons, but we meet to pray for those people and ask for the presence of God to be with them too.  We see the power of prayer through a body of believers who are meeting together.

If you are finding new ways to share who Christ is just now, keep doing that and be encouraged in the ways in which you can share Church now in ways you may not have been able to before.  However, at the time when we can meet again, let us be ready to keep sharing and let’s use this time to give people a glimpse of all that they can gain by experiencing Church together.

Father, thank you so much for church family.  We miss the family gatherings.  Thank you for all the ways we can share worship and faith together, and invite others into that too.  Help us treasure both what we still have, what we newly have, and what we once had and will have again.  We look forward very much to being together with you in gathered worship again.  Help us to invite people into the fullness of what you have for us.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
