Today’s devotion comes from Louise M.
Jesus said; ‘Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well’ Matthew 6:33.

Read Matthew 6:25-34

Not one of us knows what tomorrow will bring, or even how this day will end. Only God knows. Jesus tells us not to waste time and energy worrying about how we’ll get what we need and want, but to prioritise seeking God’s kingdom. Then we will find these other things fall into place.

But what is ‘God’s kingdom’? It’s where God’s will is done. And so you can seek God’s kingdom by asking for his will to be done in your life today. This can be a scary prayer! But we can have peace knowing it is the right thing to pray.

So, as we are being encouraged as a church to make time with God a priority each day, I encourage us to make it the FIRST thing we do each day. If you don’t already, try it and see what happens!

Even if your circumstances don’t permit quiet time alone with God first thing, you could still develop a habit of making God your first thought (Lord, I love you. Be near me today!) and take the extra time later. Or pause to say the Lord’s Prayer before you head into your day.

Father God,
Give me the desire to seek your kingdom and your righteousness first, every day. Holy Spirit, make me feel uncomfortable when I forget this; help me to remember.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen
