This chapter is written like some of the songs and poems that we find in the book of Psalms. Specifically, it is written in the form of a ‘Thanksgiving Psalm.’ There are some common features to this kind of Hebrew poetry. A summary heading. What went wrong. How God helped. And a response of commitment. Four parts to this prayer of genuine thankfulness to God. This is Jonah remembering God – remembering that He’s there, remembering what He’s done, remembering to speak with Him.
