Read Isaiah 43:1-2
This is God’s message to God’s people. There’s something you have that everybody needs right now. It’s the presence of God.
‘I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’
You were bought at a price by the God who loves and treasures you. You belong to Him; He won’t let you go right now.
‘…the rivers, they will not sweep over you… the flames will not set you ablaze…’
It feels to everyone right now that they will. But they won’t. Not for you, the children of God the Father. That’s God’s promise – and it’s because of one crucial thing, something we must not lose sight of, today and in all our tomorrows…
‘I will be with you.’
It is only because God is with us that it’s true that the waters won’t sweep over us and the flames won’t consume us. So being conscious of God’s presence – appealing to that, hour by hour, minute by minute, is what’s going to sustain us. Promise. Hold fast to Him, because He will not, He absolutely refuses to, let go of you. And it will make all the difference in the world to your day today, and your weeks to come.
Father God, it feels like we won’t be okay. Help us to know you really are present. Help us to experience your presence today, whether we are stuck in a house or frantically busy at work. Help us to be the people who are never quite hopeless, never quite overwhelmed, because we lean so hard on your presence. And may that point the world to you Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
